Peaceful garden oasis with West Coast views
Lush greenery and ocean vistas
This West Vancouver coastal garden bridges contemporary architecture with a dramatic waterfront grade. Built for a client who wanted an active, living landscape, the design brings their dreams of a lush, tropical oasis to life within a clean West Coast modern setting. We reset the entry sequence and driveway transition to create a softer, more natural visitor experience, while opening up space for a morning light cutting-garden courtyard near the front door.
Integrating the property's existing paperbark maples, mature perennial plantings, and foundational hardscape, the layout traces the contours of a rock outcrop with dry-stack stone walls and new flagstone stairs. The layout reveals clear vantage points to the ocean, pocketed with lush gardens of vibrant green and yellow foliage where everything blooms.
Waterfront Flora
Curated to thrive in a shoreside, west-facing microclimate, the planting features a thoughtful combination of bold architectural textures and vibrant woodland accents. Set against lush green backdrops and soft native ferns, tall spires of purple, pink, and white foxgloves contrast with chartreuse spurge and the dark foliage of Japanese maples. The plantings cascade down the stone terraces, framing the ocean views along rocky outcroppings.
